Number of people who died by shooting themselves was almost 4 times greater in the high-gun states
Something that someone else is going to do to them
By Kay February 3rd, 2013
This was raised in the comments on the gun posts several times, and I didnt know it, so I looked into it:
A lot of people, when they think about guns and violencesuicide is just kind of off the radar screen, said Daniel Webster, the director of the Center for Gun Policy and Research at Johns Hopkins University. Webster added: People think about the gun problem as something that someone else is going to do to them.
At the heart of this argument is the idea that the vast majority of people who have committed suicide by shooting themselves would have stayed alive if they had not been easily able to pick up a gun. This can be a difficult premise to process. First, it goes against a common intuition about suicide: that someone who wants to end his or her life will find a way to do it by any means necessary. Second, it presents a destabilizing challenge to both sides of the gun control debate, which have traditionally drawn their emotional power from peoples fear of murder.
The figures are stark. One study found that in a group of adolescents in Pittsburgh who died by committing suicide, 72 percent lived in households with guns; among adolescents who attempted suicide but survived, that number was 37 percent. Another found that across the United States, people who committed suicide in a given year were 17 times as likely to have lived in homes with guns as people who did not

Fox News Host Calls Out NRA Chief: Thats Ridiculous And You Know It, Sir (VIDEO)
PEMA LEVY 10:11 AM EST, SUNDAY FEBRUARY 3, 2013
Fox News host Chris Wallace called out National Rifle Association CEO Wayne LaPierre on Sunday for arguing that President Obama's children live under the same threats to their security as all other school children.
............
Wallace asked his guest on "Fox News Sunday" if he regretted airing a controversial TV ad in which the NRA went after President Obama for providing armed security to his daughters but not supporting their proposal to put armed guards in all schools.
"They also face a threat that most children do not face," Wallace said of Obama's daughters.
"Tell that to the people in Newtown," LaPierre responded.
"You really think that the president's children are the same kind of target as every other school child in America?" Wallace said. "That's ridiculous and you know it, sir."

Former Navy SEAL Chris Kyle Reportedly Killed at Shooting Range; Suspect Arrested
By DEAN SCHABNER
Feb. 3, 2013
A man is under arrest in connection with the killing of two men at an Erath County, Texas, gun range, police said.
One of the victims is reportedly former Navy SEAL and best-selling author Chris Kyle.
ABC affiliate WFAA-TV in Dallas reported that three sources said Kyle, author of the New York Times bestselling book, "American Sniper," and a neighbor of his were shot while helping a soldier who is recovering from post traumatic stress syndrome at a gun range in Glen Rose.
The suspect, identified as Eddie Routh, 25, was arrested in Lancaster, Texas, after a brief police chase, a Lancaster Police Department dispatcher told ABC News.

The new Facebook for Teabaggers site is up & running today, and someone has noticed something funny
Assbook Update
The new Facebook for Teabaggers site is up and running today, and someone has noticed something funny about its inner workings:
"That awkward moment when your Tea Party website chooses to entrust its encryption certificate to Great Britain."
LOOK HERE:

Yes, that says GB -- Great Britain. The very same Great Britain that the Sons of Liberty were protesting being taxed by when they held the Boston Tea Party protest, which happens to be the namesake for the whole teabagger movement.

Breaking Weather News
Dateline: Sun Prairie WI
Noted Weather Rodent Jimmy the Goundhog (seen above in an undated picture) came out of his burrow today and DID NOT see his shadow. In a prepared statement, Jimmy declared an early end to winter and a quick transition to spring. Reporters gathered around the furry prognosticator to ask how this forecast jibed with Jimmy's long time disdain for the concept of Global Warming. Before he could answer, a large Redtailed Hawk swept down, grabbing Jimmy in his talons. The hawk had been seen earlier on a lamppost near Hwy 151.
Reporters attempted to contact the hawk but were told that he was at lunch and had no comment.
Mr. Groundhog is survived by his son, Jimmy Jr. When asked by reporters whether he wold continue in the family business, Jimmy Jr answered "Hell no, I'm moving to Florida."
No funeral is planned at this time due to lack of remains but friends say there will be a memorial service to be announced at a later date.

My Favorite "Obama With A Gun" Pic
NOT THIS ONE:
UPDATE: A reader notes that because Obama said he does skeet shooting all the time, perhaps our standard of proof should be higher--such as several photographs.
I prefer these pics myself and offer them as further evidence:
