The new Facebook for Teabaggers site is up & running today, and someone has noticed something funny

Assbook Update

The new Facebook for Teabaggers site is up and running today, and someone has noticed something funny about its inner workings:

"That awkward moment when your Tea Party website chooses to entrust its encryption certificate to Great Britain."

Yes, that says GB -- Great Britain. The very same Great Britain that the Sons of Liberty were protesting being taxed by when they held the Boston Tea Party protest, which happens to be the namesake for the whole teabagger movement.

(from their homepage)

I'm confused. I thought this site was for people who DIDN'T like Facebook.

Sometimes, imitating a competitor's look and feel is permissible. Discount drugstore chains often sell house-brand equivalents of well-known brands and use similar colors on the packaging. One key test is likelihood of confusion.

Here, I'd think the teapartycommunity people have the legal edge. Who would think they were on the real Facebook if the URL is teapartycommunity.com? On top of that, their site says "DISCLAIMER: Tea Party Community is not associated or affiliated with Facebook© or Facebook.com."

Anyone who really wants to delve into the law in this area can start with this 43-page article.

Curious that of all the color schemes and layouts possible they chose to make it look so much like Facebook.
