Oklahoma Democrats [View all]

I'm not sure what it is about tragedies that bring out the worst in people, but I've noticed posts here on DU that state Oklahomans deserve what they get--including Democrats who live in the state--due to electing Republicans repeatedly. One said the Democratic Party should just give up on the state, and they couldn't remember the last time Oklahoma elected a Democratic Governor (Brad Henry, served two consecutive terms, the maximum under state law, ending in 2011.)

I did some research and found this:

- The Democratic Party dominated local politics in Oklahoma almost since the days of early statehood in 1907, until 1994.

- Since 1932, the majority of members of Congress from Oklahoma have been Democrats, and of the 26 men who have been elected to the office of Governor of Oklahoma, 22 have been Democrats.

- In January 2013, Democrats made up 47.1 percent, Republicans were 41.4 percent and independents were 11.5 percent of registered voters.

Just thought I'd point out that Democrats in Oklahoma aren't really an endangered species, but if everyone turns their backs on us and isolates us, we will be.
