Oklahoma Democrats

I'm not sure what it is about tragedies that bring out the worst in people, but I've noticed posts here on DU that state Oklahomans deserve what they get--including Democrats who live in the state--due to electing Republicans repeatedly. One said the Democratic Party should just give up on the state, and they couldn't remember the last time Oklahoma elected a Democratic Governor (Brad Henry, served two consecutive terms, the maximum under state law, ending in 2011.)

I did some research and found this:

- The Democratic Party dominated local politics in Oklahoma almost since the days of early statehood in 1907, until 1994.

- Since 1932, the majority of members of Congress from Oklahoma have been Democrats, and of the 26 men who have been elected to the office of Governor of Oklahoma, 22 have been Democrats.

- In January 2013, Democrats made up 47.1 percent, Republicans were 41.4 percent and independents were 11.5 percent of registered voters.

Just thought I'd point out that Democrats in Oklahoma aren't really an endangered species, but if everyone turns their backs on us and isolates us, we will be.

We are the state of Fred Harris, and Mike Synar.. heck in the 1930's Eugene V. Debs, the Socialist candidate got 30% of the vote.

5. That's what I hate about the red state/blue state mindset.

The liberal Democrats I know in Oklahoma work harder for fewer results than the Democrats in, say NY, get and yet the whole population is tarred with the same brush as Bush-loving fundies.

Oklahoma deserves the help and support of the rest of the nation. That's what you have coming to you. Stay strong!

that isn't solid blue. I don't post here much anymore due to the hateful nature of many on du. I find it very odd that a site that is supposed to be progressive has to have a forum just for people from the South....just so they can have a safe haven at du....also people that are Christian get slammed on a regular basis here. Really makes me sick to come on here.

I wasn't going to come on du after the tornado since I knew what the response would be and sure enough du lived up to it's low standards. A few years ago, one progressive on du referred to McVeigh and Nichols as home grown wackjobs....little did they know one was from NY and the other from Michigan...however, I did make a point to tell him. Also, a few years ago, a lovely lady from the Midwest made the comment "good" when she heard fires were raging in OKC.

All that being said, I'm curious if anyone knows any other decent moderate or liberal sites other that Daily Kos....ones where the hatred for people from the South isn't so prevalent. Frankly, I'm to the point where I would just like my account deleted....don't want to be counted as a member of this site....makes me feel dirty.
