6. My family has always had cats, but none have ever climbed the tree.

Their interaction (over a 45+ year period) has been limited to:

batting at an ornament
trying to eat tinsel
drinking out of the tree stand even though they have fresh clean water in the kitchen
sleeping in the train-set train tunnel under the tree

We dog sat a beagle over the holidays once and he stole and ate all the gingerbread men from the tree (they were coated in shellac to preserve them) and then tried to eat other ornaments.
