Ewwwww. I recently learned that the tinsel of my childhood contained large amounts of lead. n/t FSogol Dec 2017 #10
Yes, it was made of a sort of lead foil. It was heavy, so it hung and draped nicely. The Velveteen Ocelot Dec 2017 #11

We have an 8 month old boy cat right now so we didn't even ponder a tree in the house .

I now just hang ornaments and some lights on a beam in the living room. Even I can't reach them.

My little darlins played hockey with the Christmas tree balls. Ehh just put them back as the monsters watched.

Out two pesky kittehs don't appreciate the wonders of snow falling in an alt reality.

They leave to ornaments, beads and lights alone. They just like to sleep under it. They are weird cats.

Their interaction (over a 45+ year period) has been limited to:

batting at an ornament
trying to eat tinsel
drinking out of the tree stand even though they have fresh clean water in the kitchen
sleeping in the train-set train tunnel under the tree

We dog sat a beagle over the holidays once and he stole and ate all the gingerbread men from the tree (they were coated in shellac to preserve them) and then tried to eat other ornaments.

Verified when cleaning the litter box. Two tootsie rolls connected by a strand of tinsel was a dead giveaway. Alas, that was the last year we used tinsel.

The new stuff that's not made of lead doesn't drape as well; it's flimsy and floaty and I don't like it.

the only cat on this planet who could not care less about dangling things. No attraction whatsoever. She does, however, love to climb. Last year towards the end of the season I found her nesting in the middle of the tree. She didn’t hurt anything. This year I just made sure the trees were solidly in their stands. She’s only 10 labs and if she stays near the trunk all should be well.

That's cat proof.

assaulted my Christmas trees...thankfully. I usually place a cushy kitty hiding spot under the tree and that seems to calm them and make them happy. Now wagging dog tails are a different matter....tougher to deal with by a long shot!

Oh, did I do that? Couldn’t be. I’m just an innocent cat sitting here minding my own business. That dog must have done it.
