RandySF's JournalRural America Is the New Inner City
A Wall Street Journal analysis shows that since the 1990s, sparsely populated counties have replaced large cities as Americas most troubled areas by key measures of socioeconomic well-beinga decline thats accelerating.
In terms of poverty, college attainment, teenage births, divorce, death rates from heart disease and cancer, reliance on federal disability insurance and male labor-force participation, rural counties now rank the worst among the four major U.S. population groupings (the others are big cities, suburbs and medium or small metro areas).
In fact, the total rural populationaccounting for births, deaths and migrationhas declined for five straight years.

Prediction: Trump will kill someone on stage and his deplorables will love him for it.
That's exactly the direction at least 40% of the country is headed. We've seen Republicans get elected after forcing mistresses to get abortions, sterilize women without their knowledge and, now, beating reporters. We know Donald LOVES to entertain and before he leaves office, he will shoot someone in the head in front of an angry mob of his followers. This is exactly the direction we're headed.

Democrats flip 2 state legislature seats in Trump districts
Could these be the first splashes of an impending blue wave?
Only time will tell, but Democrats have flipped two statehouse seats in New Hampshire and New York in districts won by Donald Trump.
Democrat Edie DesMarais narrowly defeated Republican Matthew Panche in New Hampshire last night, winning by 4 percentage points just 56 votes. Trump won that district, 51 to 44 percent, according to an analysis by the Daily Kos.
Wolfeboro, the major city in that district, has long been a GOP stronghold in the statehouse which has 400 members, the largest in the nation. Democrats have never won that district, according to the state's Democratic Party.
In New York, Democrat Christine Pellegrino defeated Republican Thomas Gargiulo, 58 to 42 percent a dramatic reversal from Trump's 60 to 37 percent victory in that district, according to the Daily Kos.

GOP senator: Pence deserved better treatment at Notre Dame
Sen. Tom Cotton (R-Ark.) says that Vice President Pence deserved better treatment during his stop at the University of Notre Dame, where a large group of students walked out of his commencement address on Sunday.
It is especially unfortunate that students walked out of the vice presidents speech on Sunday because if any young people needed to hear how important freedom of speech is to our country, it would be them, Cotton said in a statement Monday, according to NBC News.
I think the vice president deserves credit for speaking out on the spread of intolerance at college campuses and I know he deserved better treatment than what he received this weekend.
A group of Fighting Irish graduates stood up and began to walk out as soon as Pence began speaking.

Poll: Trump loyalists want law enforcement to pledge oath to Orange Julius.
In the Nation Tracker, we've been following Americans in terms of their support for the president and what policies they want. Out of all his backers, we've been labeling the strongest segment the "believers," and today they compose just 19 percent of the country, down from a high of 22 percent in February and 21 percent in March. Panelists for this study were re-interviewed, and we find that nearly one in five who used to be "believers" this winter have now become "conditional" supporters today (though they are still supporters). That's higher than the rate of conditional supporters who, feeling the president is unfairly under fire, became stronger supporters.
They're holding firm for a president that 89 percent of them feel is facing more resistance from "the establishment" than his predecessors. More than three-quarters of them see political motivations behind the recent controversies and more than eight in 10 believe the president is subject to unfair coverage. They support him not only because they feel he needs their support now against the "establishment" but also because eight in ten feel he speaks for people like them, and that he "respects the working class" in ways others do not. (They do demographically tend to be the kinds of voters who helped swing the election for him, non-college graduates with relatively lower incomes.)
The believers differ attitudinally from other groups today in important ways. They're the most likely to say Mr. Trump should have more power, in general, and most would prefer congressional Republicans to follow his lead. A majority -- 55 percent -- of them believe government and law enforcement officials should take an oath of loyalty to the Constitution and president, while 34 percent say the Constitution alone. Nine in 10 believe Comey should have been fired. But they do see a role for congressional oversight on matters of national security.

Unruly MAGA Hat-Wearing Passenger Escorted Off Plane.
A United Airlines flight from Shanghai to Newark, New Jersey, made an unscheduled stop at San Francisco International Airport on Sunday due to an unruly passenger, authorities said.
United said the man tried to take another passengers seat while boarding in Shanghai. He allegedly refused to move and grew increasingly disruptive.
All passengers had to de-plane at SFO while local law enforcement dealt with the matter.
The man was removed from the plane at SFO before the flight continued on its way to the East Coast. Passengers were delayed more than three hours on the already lengthy flight.
The man was wearing a bright red "Make America Great Again" hat, and fellow passengers greeted him with shouts of "Lock him up!" when he was escorted off the plane.
