Well said, Heartstrings.

The people involved in these 'protests' are modeling the same selfish behavior they see from trump: trying to bend the situation to meet their desires instead of recognizing that the reality is not going to change to suit them. It's frustrating to watch knowing that, unlike toddler trump, their behavior increases the risk of catching the virus and dying from it, or worse, perhaps killing those around them through their short-sighted selfishness.

The comments to the WaPo article are eye-opening.

Support for Crozier is universal, and some of the speculation as to why he sent the messages to 'fellow aviators' rather than chain of command is that he was attempting to punch through the fog of politics. Those who serve surely would have a better read on this. The comments section is long, but here's a slice, with names left out:

Why didn't Cozier do the P4 thing the article mentions? There must be more to the story.

The more I think about it, the more I think he was handing out "plausible deniability" awards to people clisest to Trump.

He may have. You're right, we don't have the whole story. Hopefully, the investigation will get some answers. Remember, his main memo was addressed to "My Fellow Aviators" not to his chain of command. That was more of a personal communications. There is definitely more to this.

Navy Believes Delivery Flights, Not Vietnam Port Stop, Brought Virus to Carrier

Navy officials say they've been unable to make a definitive link between hundreds of coronavirus cases on an aircraft carrier and a controversial port call in Vietnam, leading them to consider the possibility that pilots delivering goods to the ship carried it aboard.

Carrier onboard deliveries, known as CODs, could be to blame for the ongoing health crisis onboard the carrier Theodore Roosevelt, a Navy official told Military.com. The flights in question could have originated in the Philippines or Japan as the carrier operated in the Asia-Pacific region, the official said. [snip]

The guided-missile cruiser Bunker Hill, which stopped in Vietnam with the Roosevelt, hasn't reported any COVID-19 cases, Defense Secretary Mark Esper said this week.

Vasquez said the crews got a brief from medical personnel on coronavirus prevention. And when two British people tested positive for the illness at a hotel that dozens of sailors had visited, those personnel were tested for COVID-19 and placed into quarantine for 14 days, he said.

None of those personnel were among the first three Roosevelt crew members to test positive for COVID-19, Vasquez added.

Normal operating procedures, not the diplomatic stop in Vietnam, are now thought to be the likely source of infection. Procedures have been changed since to block any personnel cross contact and to allow for the virus to die off any possibly infected shipments.

The key sentence:

None of this had to happen.

That sentence should appear somewhere in every newscast, every news article, every single time.

That's how it's done.

My only complaint is that she keeps calling it the Wuhan virus; it's jarring.

Her point regarding trump's criminality is spot on. Had the CDC not been gutted, had the US acted earlier, the entire world would have been better off. Eventually the US may be blamed for the severity of the pandemic, if not officially, at least in people's minds the world over. This will be even more of an issue if we are seen not to take action regarding the current administration's criminal culpability.

Adam Schiff is going to be a busy man.

Sorry to hear it.

This is the kind of thing that gets out of hand with no clear leadership and no clearly defined message from the top. trump refuses to stand behind social distancing, so every RW nutbar has free reign to get away with this nonsense. It's a national security issue at this point. It's going to get worse until governors have no choice but to ask the National Guard to help corral the nonsense. Then all the RW nutbars will really start to squeal.

Lather, rinse, repeat. Ugh.

Listening to Merkel and Ardern is so comforting.

They are talking in calm, modulated tones. They both are using plain language to clearly explain what the plan is and why it needs to be that way. There is no puffery and grandstanding, there are no histrionics, no blame games, no whiney "it's not my fault!" They don't talk about themselves at all, just the facts and the plan to deal with the situation. It's disappointing when they finish speaking, because realization sets in that all of that is directed elsewhere. We're stuck listening to a spoiled brat with more issues than a library periodicals section, a moron who couldn't plan his way out of a paper bag.

*sigh*

Every one of these ghouls who keeps talking about acceptable losses

really needs to be volunteered at the nearest hospital for about a week. Then see what they have to say.

Sociopaths.

Thank you for mentioning this.

I saw Devos' name a few times in various posts with no explanation, and because things can move so fast here the significance went right by me. Your post made me go look it up.

https://www.politico.com/news/2020/04/15/michigan-protest-whitmer-coronavirus-188579

The protest, called “Operation Gridlock,” was organized by the Michigan Conservative Coalition and the Michigan Freedom Fund, a DeVos family-linked conservative group. The Facebook event called on attendees to “TAKE ACTION IN LANSING“ but “Not on foot — STAY in your VEHICLES!“

But many of the demonstrators, some waving Trump campaign flags, ignored the organizers‘ pleas and flooded the streets, according to NBC news. Protesters chanted, “Open up Michigan,“ and at one point erupted into a “Lock her up“ refrain in reference to Whitmer.

The Democratic governor last week issued one of the nation’s strictest stay-at-home orders amid the coronavirus pandemic, choosing to not align the state with a federal agency’s revised list of critical infrastructure, which would allow some Michiganders to return to work. Though the list is advisory, Whitmer’s decision to tighten instead of loosen restrictions has sparked backlash from Republican legislators across the state.

Now it makes more sense. This was way too big to be a grassroots thing; someone had to organize it. The Repubs fueling this are awful. They're going to get people killed.

Thanks again, Frustratedlady!
