Bottom line: First Look Media is a fucking disaster. But it’s admittedly kind of fun to watch this absurd soap opera. Also, if I were Taibbi I’d have hired a lawyer by now to take on what’s being written about him. Maybe it’s true, maybe it isn’t — but it’s pretty defamatory.

Pando Daily writers Paul Carr, Mark Ames and Yasha Levine have asked Greenwald to state whether he will hold Omidyar to the same standards he holds everyone else to, particularly given the fact his new boss supported going after journalists who leak documents from private companies. Back in 2009, Omidyar tweeted this after TechCrunch published leaked documents from Twitter:
To summarize, here are the questions Omidyar and Greenwald have yet to answer:
1. Will Greenwald accept that there’s a conflict of interest in entering into a business partnership with Omidyar whose existing business is in an alleged partnership with the NSA?
2. If so, will Greenwald release any and all documents pertaining to PayPal’s collaboration with the NSA, if they do indeed exist?
3. Are there any contractual agreements with Omidyar about the release of the remaining NSA files and NewCo? Will Omidyar and Greenwald publish them for the public to see?
4. Will Greenwald pledge to cover any potentially corrupt Omidyar’s business practices and hold him and his NSA collaborating business to the same standards he has everyone else?
Greenwald is an expert at applying ludicrously high standards of transparency and accountability to anyone he chooses to focus his laser-like attentions on. When it comes to himself, not so much evidently.

The Blundering Rise And Epic Fall Of The Christie-Cuomo Ebola Quarantine

"If anything is clear from the reporting of the nurse who was quarantined in a New Jersey hospital over Ebola fears, it's that the actual quarantine itself was handled miserably. Nurse Kaci Hickox, who returned to the U.S. via Newark airport Friday after treating Ebola patients for Doctors Without Borders in Sierra Leone, described her treatment as "a frenzy of disorganization." She was so flustered that a forehead reading showed her with a fever -- which was then used as reason to quarantine her. Later, they took her temperature again and no fever registered. She was kept in quarantine anyway.
Further reported details of Hickox's predicament made clear that, although New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie and New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo were anxious to show resolve and order the quarantine, their local health officials weren't ready to carry out the order in any way that resembled humane treatment.
According to CNN, Hickox was placed in a tent inside the isolation ward at University Hospital in Newark almost simultaneously to the quarantine policy being put in effect. She was not allowed to take her luggage with her into quarantine and was forced to wear paper scrubs. She had no shower or flushable toilet -- she also lacked any form of entertainment, no television and no reading materials. She had to speak with her lawyers through a narrow window in the tent.
She said she mostly spent her time staring at walls -- until she started to take her story national in a first-person narrative for the Dallas Morning News and in her Sunday interview with CNN.

My son and I were just talking about a thread on DU recently where the OP's daughter had broken her heart with a post on FB saying she wasn't voting this year. My son is older but just started voting after he saw what the bush coup did to our country. And, he does know there's a big difference between the two parties.. he's always posting the dif on FB. I'm proud of him.

Noam Levey: Number Of Latinos With Insurance Coverage Surges Under Healthcare Law
"The federal healthcare law has dramatically increased coverage among Latinos, according to a new report that provides a comprehensive look at the effects of the Affordable Care Act on a historically underinsured community. Overall, the percentage of Latinos ages 19 to 64 lacking health coverage fell from 36% to 23% between summer 2013 and spring 2014. That parallels a broader increase in coverage that has taken place since insurance marketplaces opened last fall and states began expanding Medicaid under the healthcare law.
The overall uninsured rate for U.S. adults under 65 plummeted from 20% to 15% in the same period, according to the Commonwealth Fund, a nonprofit group that studies U.S. and global health systems. Other surveys have shown similar declines. “The Affordable Care Act appears to be working for millions of Latinos who, as a group, have long faced the nation’s highest uninsured rates,” said the Commonwealth Fund’s Michelle Doty, the report’s lead author. “These substantial improvements will mean better health and healthcare for millions of people.” The Medicaid expansion proved particularly important for Latinos, the Commonwealth Fund report indicates. In states that expanded Medicaid, including California, the uninsured rate among working-age Latino adults dropped by about half, from 35% to 17%."
