(612 posts)Most of my family voted for Hillary, as I did. But one of my nephews decided to vote for Trump. We desperately tried to change his mind, pointing out a lot of what you just expressed. My nephew -- a high school educated, blue-collar worker, who spent very little time paying attention to political analysis -- told us that he didn't like a lot of what Trump said, but he believed that he was going to improve things for the ordinary working people. And some of his co-workers supported his naive belief. We were all disappointed, of course. Personally, I felt deep anger with him on election night.
I agree that a large percentage of Trump voters are the very deplorables that Hillary described. But I'm convinced from my own experience, that a certain percentage of them, who weren't paying close attention, and may have heard from a co-worker that Trump was going to make their lives better, just decided to give Trump a shot. My nephew would never attend a Trump rally. He, and people like him can be won back in 2020. I think we should be open to letting them know they're welcome back.
primary today, I would vote for: Joe Biden
