Democratic Primaries

(5,995 posts)In coal country where the jobs are disappearing and retraining/moving are not likely to happen, such a plan would remove the stigma of "welfare" and the bureaucracy to manage it. Add in health coverage and many of those dying towns could have a chance. Also would apply to farming towns, etc.
In the larger more prosperous areas, the same universal benefits would stimulate the service economy that underpins daily life. Middle income folks would be glad for the help and the truly wealthy wouldn't even know it was there.
Sure, we all know some folks that would just sit back and think they'd made it, but we also know others that came from next to nothing and clawed their way out that could really use the help.
While this is socialism, putting the money in peoples pockets to use as they want would stimulate the capitalist sector. Guess that would be social capitalism in a democratic socialist society.
