(4,319 posts)We just have a different definition of the word "whiner."
I don't see how you can call me a whiner when I am not complaining for myself. I am content with what I have managed to achieve in life. I am concerned about the desperate predicament in which I see other people getting stuck. I am concerned about children who don't get enough to eat. I am concerned about children who are put to bed in a relative's house, awakened in the middle of the night, and put to bed again in the house that is technically theirs, then awakened again at 6 so they can catch a school bus for an hour's bumpy ride before the school day. I am concerned about children who are homeless. I am concerned about Black people who get shot, or their heads slammed against the pavement, or put in jail for life, for no real reason. I am concerned about young people who are forced to ruin their chances to get a mortgage on a decent home in which to raise children, until they are really too old to begin parenting, because of draconian student loan policies. I am concerned about people with carefully, arduously won technical skills, who are studiously ignored so the overlords can import desperately poor people (who probably would rather stay at home if they could get enough food there) whom the overlords sense they can mistreat as much as they please. I am concerned about people of various backgrounds who are deliberately given what their overlords believe to be just enough to keep body and soul together for them, but which is really not enough to do even that because their overlords are too sheltered and cossetted to understand what the real costs of living are in our country, or our world.
