Catechism said: "you give up one food", so I picked beets. Cheapass parents didn't give me money to buy candy so I didn't know what luxury or sacrifice were. I love canned beets: sugary, salty, vinegar taste, and a texture that makes for sensuous chewing. What I really love is beets in a pressure cooker. They cook quickly and preserve the flavor.
