A few years ago, my friend the Animal control lady brought me a 4 week old kitten that had been in teh wall of a local business.
There are surprising number of kittens found in walls around here, weird.
Anyhow, I bottle fed this teeny black kitten, planning on just fostering it, I do a lot of fostering.
But he grew on me, and even Murphy put up with him, so did the Golden, so we kept Boomer.
He was 3 years old when he got bit by a rattlesnake under our deck.
Off to the vet, and no choice, had to put him out of his misery, it was, by the time he came to me in the yard, an advanced bite.
Boomer was a short hair black cat with lovely green eyes, and when he was hungry, he would sit in front of the buffet, where the dry cat food was stored at one end.
Fast forward to 18 months later.....an adult short hair grey cat shows up on my porch. With green eyes.
I opened the door and he walked right in, past the dog who was lying on the floor. The dog did not even lift his head.
Murphy was lying on a chair by the dog, did not move.
The cat walked right up to the buffet door and sat down and looked at me.
I fed him.
He ate, stretched, and then went over to Boomer's favorite chair, jumped up and took a nap.
And stayed with us for 2 years.
I named him Bailey ( Won't you come home,Bill Bailey, won't you come home?"...song)
Calmest most placid cat I have ever seen. Not a great cuddler...neither was Boomer, liked to be around hoomins, but not pushy for pets.
His one bad habit was he loved to get into people's pickups in the yard.
And one day after the meter reader had been here with his pickup, Bailey was gone.
I am certain he rode along until he spotted a house he wanted, and moved in on someone else.
Here is Murphy and Bailey, sharing the cat chair....Bailey is in Boomer's spot.
