Stuff I hated then, maybe now it seems pretty good. I stopped listening to music a long time ago. I couldn't name any current group to save my life.
There are a few songs that traditionally make these lists about which I would not argue. Such as, "My Ding-a-Ling." What was he thinking?
"Night Moves," Bob Seger. Just hate it totally.
Now you've done it. There's this local FM station that says it plays the top hits of the '70s, '80s, '90s, and today. You know the kind. Anyway, their concept of the top songs of the '70s is limited to a playlist of about 20 songs. I mean, if I hear "Don't Fear the Reaper" one more time, I'll start slashing kids myself. And I saw that movie at a drive-in. They really need to get out of that rut.
I love disco. Like anything else, there was dreck, but there was also excellence. You could say that about the big band era.
Abba? I can listen to them, no problem.
Styx? I was listening to the radio years ago. They were going to have a retrospective of Styx's greatest hits. "This won't take long," I though. Wrong. Those marvelous songs went on and on. I was so mistaken. Great group.
It all depends on your time and place. For some reason, I had an earworm of Human League's " Keep Feeling) Fascination." I went to YouTube to watch it. Read the comments. One was to the effect of "Oh, this brings back such warm memories. We used to go the video arcade at the mall. I wish I could get those years back."
And that's the beauty of it. It's what the music brings back that counts. One person's worst song is another's reminder of the best times ever.
Here's one video of Human League, but I don't think it's the one with that comment.
Look at T. Rex. Sometimes just awful; other times, not. To clarify, this is good T. Rex:
Glam? I can't get enough:
That's probably enough by itself to infuriate several posters.
Well, to answer your question, "what was a song you dislike intensely?" the answer is "anything with Autotune." I had to give up "Glee" because everything was Autotuned.
Great thread.
