For instance, a few years ago my sister adopted a then-12-year-old cat who'd been an indoor cat and "only child" her whole life. When my sister moved from Northern California to Austin several months later to be with her boyfriend from college, the cat wound up at our folks' house. Edna moved in and basically took over, after poor Bob had been the man of the house for over 8 years. Even now, 2 1/2 years later, she barely tolerates his presence, and yowls and hisses when he gets too close.
But I suppose if either had been a kitten or juvenile it might've been different. I really don't know.
