(146,373 posts)In the house, he's quiet. I think the previous owners helped with that.
Today, he got his first obedience training on a leash. He quickly got Stop! and Sit!. When we started, he didn't get either one, but after a very brief demonstration, he did fine. Stop! has him turning back and returning immediately to me (treats), and Sit! gets his butt on the ground, whatever he's doing. It was very easy, which makes me think he's been through some training before. He seems smart and gets the lesson quickly. Tomorrow, we'll reinforce those two commands and start on Stay! Looks to me like a week of daily work and he'll be pretty good.
When I brought him back in the house, still on the leash, he encountered one of our two cats, face to face for the first time. I said Stop!, and he looked up for a treat. Then, with the cat two feet from him, I said Sit! he promptly sat, and the two looked at each other. No hissing, no lunging, no problem. He's back in the kennel now, but we're about to shut doors on the cats, and give him the run of the house for awhile, so he can sniff everything to his heart's content.
