2. The indefinite extensions of copyrights have already broken half the bargain.

I'll be more than happy to respect copyright more if the original copyright periods (7 years with 1 optional 7 year extension) were brought back, or at least a reasonable length depending on the type of work. Most of it is sheer rent-seeking behaviour by corporations who had nothing to do with the creative aspects of the work in question either.
