1. Syd was a pretty big deal...

...to invoke the power of egregious understatement for a moment. David Bowie predicted that Pink Floyd would go absolutely nowhere without him and lotsa people were really pissed of that they continued using the moniker at all. I recently read a book written from that perspective that actually referred to Syd-less Floyd as "the appallingly insipid Waters-Wright-Gilmour-Mason."

Ultimately Syd's own long shadow would prove to be as great or even greater a contribution to music than his actual body of work... Dark Side of the Moon, Wish You Were Here and The Wall all fall beneath that shadow to varying extents.

Then there's guys like Robyn Hitchcock who are likely to be the closest we'll ever get to Syd-minus-mental-illness-LSD-crash...
