In reply to the discussion: Pic Of The Moment: Obama On Obamacare [View all]calimary
(81,466 posts)Glad you're here! I voted for Obama twice, too, and am SO glad to have the Affordable Care Act! (I refuse to call it "Obamacare," because I don't believe in repeating and giving further life and validation to the bad guys' slogans.)
It means that both the men in my life, who had been turned down for preexisting conditions, now have coverage.
It means that the kid who drums in my son's band, who is a child cancer survivor, remains covered under his parents' insurance policies til he's 26 - and has a chance to get on his feet with his own career.
It means I actually got a $90 refund check from my insurance carrier (with a lot of fanfare, of course, a glowing letter breaking its collective arms patting itself on the back for being so wonderful) - ONLY BECAUSE THE ACA FORCED THEM TO DO IT. NO WAY did they do that out of the "goodness of their hearts"!!!! They did it because one of the provisions in the ACA mandates that at least 80% of the premiums you pay MUST apply directly to YOUR COVERAGE.

And those are just the parts of the ACA that affect me personally. There are other provisions that are just as helpful and necessary, and a blessing if you really wanna know, that affect other people.
