(602 posts)Before Columbine in 1999, mass shootings in America were rare events. After 1999, there have been at least one or two mass shootings per year every year (except one i believe), and three mass shootings a few times and prior to this year, four mass shootings in one year. This year, we already have four mass shootings, and we still have almost have a year left to go. The rise in mass shootings, almost all of which were perpetrated with semi-automatic weapons, are most certainly directly related to the massive saturation of our society WITH semi-automatic weapons -- weapons that were never meant for hunting, just for killing people. The folks in that photograph are perfect poster-childs for the NRA lunacy that allows any wreck of a human being to walk into the gun store and walk out armed to the teeth. The smirk on the gal's face is an insult to the many people who have died or had their lives ruined as result of the proliferation of semi-automatic weapons into our society.
