CHICAGO Chicago can breathe a sigh of relief: New York City will not be home to the Barack Obama Presidential Library and Museum.
Mr. Obamas library will be in his adopted home, Chicagos South Side, according to two people who were briefed about the decision. Both spoke on the condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak before the official announcement.
Mayor Rahm Emanuel, who was Mr. Obamas chief of staff and led the lobbying effort to bring the library to the city where Mr. Obama first won elected office, is expected to make the announcement public within the next two weeks.
The presidents foundation considered awarding the library to Columbia University, where Mr. Obama earned his undergraduate degree, but, after some local zoning issues were cleared, it became all but certain that Chicago would be the choice. Hawaii, where Mr. Obama spent his boyhood, also bid on the library.
