the fields of marketing and advertising can be darkly effective, bordering on sociopathic. They are sciences whose effectiveness is based in psychology, brain chemistry, sociology, basic instincts, etc.. We are in a world where tens of millions of people buy unhealthy 'foods', bad beer, expensive shoes, tickets to bad movies, etc...why?
The average person has no innate defense against trained, talented sales and ad-men....even if they stick to the truth. Advertising works, right? And sometimes all it is is spreading the word about a valid idea or product. But add in a disregard for truth and you've WEAPONIZED an effective field of science for purposes of manipulation.
Combine state of the art, WEAPONIZED advertising techniques with a sociopath in position of government power and you have a real threat. An early warning came from Karl Rove and was largely ignored maybe because it was more subtle and stealthy:
"The aide said that guys like me were 'in what we call the reality-based community,' which he defined as people who 'believe that solutions emerge from your judicious study of discernible reality.' [...] 'That's not the way the world really works anymore,' he continued. 'We're an empire now, and when we act, we create our own reality. And while you're studying that realityjudiciously, as you willwe'll act again, creating other new realities, which you can study too, and that's how things will sort out. We're history's actors
and you, all of you, will be left to just study what we do'."
DUrs have heard the above Suskind quote a hundred times...but it's worth posting over and over in hopes that a wider audience will eventually understand what Trump is trying to do to our perceptions of reality. Lie...move on...lie, move on again while everyone is talking about the last lie....lie, move on...lie move on.
