(68,586 posts)nearly thrown out of office during the businessman's revolt and was nearly assassinated in Illinois. His new deal gave Americans hope and social security. But you can't say he was perfect and to just hang onto his policies with no consideration for our own 21st century problems is foolish. One could not expect Roosevelt a man of his times to adopt social justice as an issue although Eleanor did to some degree. However, to use his policies to advocate for an economic policy that ignores or minimizes social justice today is wrong. We should use the good Roosevelt did and the lessons that are always learned from great men, but he is not the end all for the Democratic Party. We need to have policies that reflect the 21st century...not live in the past. And my example was to show you that even if you reduce income inequality which Roosevelt certainly did...without social justice it cannot be shared by all. thus income inequality and social justice are linked inexorably for all time.
