An attempt at something positive [View all]

Since the Democratic Party is supposed to be the "Big Tent" one, how about we all try harder at inclusion, forgiveness, tolerance? If you know what you believe, if you're firm in your values, if you know what kind of candidates you support, that might be enough. We can't be so stringent that we don't allow nuance, varying degrees, different interpretations. What's "progressive" to me may not be the same to you....and we could both be right.

I've been involved in the Women's Movement for decades and raised a bright, caring, fair-minded feminist. Although I can not imagine ever having an abortion, I support a woman's right to choose 100%. In addition, although I strongly support the Women's Movement, I deeply respect the zillions of men who stand with women and offer their support. To my way of thinking, men are of equal, vital importance in our society and we should move toward a greater understanding of one another wherever possible. We need each other and we're better together.

Not all party criticism is "bashing" and not all differing opinions are disloyalty. We don't have to hate Bernie if we supported Hillary and we don't have to hate Hillary if we supported Bernie. What a shame if the current party fissure becomes a chasm that neither side can close. We could end up with a giant hole and nothing else. The party upheaval is like an instant primary replay on a 24/7 loop. It has to stop before it's too late.

It's heartbreaking to see so much space taken up with vicious fighting but almost no room or energy for posts expressing concern for our troops in harm's way, Arkansas executions, the famine in South Sudan, or any number of issues we could be working on.

There must be some common ground here. We could start from there and move forward together. An insightful DUer recently wrote that instead of letting the wounds heal, we' re picking the scabs. Let's stop scab-picking and try to heal. If we don't, 2018 will make us see red.

~PEACE~
