In reply to the discussion: VOTE BLUE NO MATTER WHO [View all]HereSince1628
(36,063 posts)88. DWS and Clinton back non-democrats, what's ok for 'leaders' is ok for voters.
Indeed some might say it's a duty of voters to vote to change party systems and governments when systematically parties and governments yield evidence year after year that the party and the government no longer supports the people.
Here is a bit of what the Founding Fathers had to say about this in the Declaration of Independence:
...when a long train of abuses and usurpation's, pursuing invariably the same object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such government, and to provide new guards for their future security
Now, if you reread that replacing the word despotism with oligarchy and government with party you get the point in terms of this campaign cycle.
People backing Sanders' revolution in political thinking feel that sentiment. Like Sanders, they are currently working -inside the Party- NOT BECAUSE THEY LIKE IT, but because it is their -duty- to change it from the corrupted servant of the big donor class.
If the party makes it impossible to change from within, it guarantees a future in which it will face a similar number of voters from outside.
