(1,351 posts)I haven't been abroad in a long time. But here in the US, people cannot just BE. Few people are comfortable just sitting there with their thoughts or reading a magazine. There has to be a device in front of them (although this is the least bothersome because others don't have to share in the experience). Or a TV has to be on in front of them. Or there has to be music playing while they're getting gas (bigger cities have video screens at the gas pumps now).
We're generations of people raised on having movies playing while we're riding in cars. Nobody wants to interact, even with their own family members. It always makes me want to puke when I see a parent walking into a store with a child (or children), all the while they're walking from their car to the store they're looking down at their phone, ignoring their kid(s).
