$35 million paid to Sandy victims. $50 million paid to politically connected firm HGI and who knows how much to other hooked in private firms for doing nothing. Another $25 million for Christie's family beach vacation movie. What happens when you do things like that? Disaster victims are still living in motels-like this one:
Sandy victims were living at Point Pleasant Beach motel destroyed by fire
Several residents of the Point Pleasant Beach motel destroyed by fire were displaced Hurricane Sandy victims still awaiting aid to rebuild their homes, according to the owner of a neighboring business.
Linda DeDreux, owner of the Broadway Bar & Grill, said that at least six people living at the Mariner's Cove Motor Inn were still struggling after the storm.
"The people are still there after Hurricane Sandy," said DeDreux. "They were still waiting for their houses to be repaired."
One of the three people who died in the blaze was a regular customer at the Broadway, DeDreux said. He was an elderly man who lived on the second floor, she said.
"He was afraid to jump," said DeDreux. "He wouldn't jump."
