As was pointed out in some research, and some of it posted here, they have a worldview, and the way they are able to rationalize it is to believe that anyone who is anyone believes it as well.
Anyone that doesn't is defective.
It's like expecting to have a rational discussion with a nazi storm trooper while he is herding you into a cattle car. They really don't think you are human if we don't agree with them, and we have less value than a dime on the sidewalk, or maybe a penny, for which they would actually expend some effort to rescue from a sidewalk.
And this extends to EVERYTHING - even settled science that most of the somewhat trained world believes. If it is not in their viewpoint it is wrong, and people who believe it are there friends. They would just as soon see everyone else dead.
People who disagree with them think they are discussing, exploring arguments. They are not. It is a pogrom, they are the brownshirts, and the brick-throwing just hasn't started yet.
