Upset with Trayvon Verdict? Blame Militarization of the American Psyche [View all]

I wanted to blame Jury selection for the verdict. Clearly a mormon woman on such a trial is not only anathema to a justice system trying to be fair - overcompensating shall we say..., but shows how skillfully the defense started winning from the start...

Then I moved onto blaming "Stand your Ground" Laws and the way the Jury was instructed as Thom Hartmann pointed out so eloquently, that the Prior to 2006 jury instructions had changed from "if you have a chance to back away from conflict, you must" to the twisted and convoluted instructions based on the "Stand Your Ground" laws... but alas that didn't feel like a root cause..

I wanted to blame the televised nature of the trial like the OJ Simpson trial, the minute the nation's huge glare was on that trial, the jury and the entire trial participants took on a circus like 'funhouse mirror' distortion of what might have really happened in a normal trial.. alas, still not satiated

I wanted to blame the female jurors who do not realize consciously they have been victimized by men and for that brief moment felt the angst of a man in whose neighborhood some black boy had wandered-felt empowered to fight back against a black man vicariously thru Zimmerman's actions.. put themselves in the shoes of any person who sees someone they don't recognize outside the yard where their children play... of course I'd protect my kids, of course I'd fight to save my yard, my home, my lifestyle....

I wanted to blame the prosecution who did not highlight in enough detail that this PEDOPHILE, Daddy is a JUDGE WHO WILL GET ME OUT OF ANY TROUBLE man named George Zimmerman was really going to win every future court case because he has a get out of jail free card, his daddy and indeed a justice system that let's such insiders have so much sway (just watch law and order to see about sway and how unjust and unfair and inconsistent the judicial system truly might be)... but alas still no relief from my suffering over the verdict...

and then it hit me..

could the militarization of our society by a constant onslaught of very historically placed precedents be infiltrating our american psyche? (patriot act, NSA spying, indeed the head of the CIA formerly only saved for civilians now the domain of our military)... could we be quite naturally brainwashed to feel like soldiers are brainwashed to feel justified in killing, are we brainwashed by the militarization of our psyche to feel we have the right to kill anybody we want whenever we want without any code of moral conduct?

because I have come to the conclusion that those 6 women did not judge the case with any code of moral conduct.

BECAUSE a man who goes looking for trouble then finds it, deserves to be hurt if he goes looking for it.

If I am drinking too much beer at my how backyard party and I see a friend I"m mad at and I cross over the entire length of my grass to go start poking a finger in my friend's face and screaming things, I deserve to have that friend slug me in the face....

George zimmerman deserved to be hurt by a person he ran literally around the block to go harrass after being told not to by a professional dispatcher on the other line. THAT IS THE CRUX.. he went looking for violence and he deserved what he got.

He deserved to have trayvon attack him.

mr. zimmerman, in my full estimation was not an ethical man, was not defending any aspect of his person or property.

quite simply, George zimmerman was looking for a fight.

he got one.

he killed a kid who was not looking for a fight

and he is now set free , gun handed back so he can rape, abuse and victimize more kids, more black boys and anyone he wants and because we have MILITARIZED our laws such as the "stand your ground" laws in Florida and because our media is so amazingly great at their job.

we have brainwashed otherwise law abiding (or shall we say formerly law abiding citizens) such as 6 compassionate women to vote FOR THE SOLDIER and against the victim of the soldier's unwarranted and militaristically unwelcome violent rages.

I fear for the result of an american public that is soothed by their furor (our president) giving a collective "sig Heil" to his brainwashed masses by saying "don't get violent at your protest rallies" and on the most left leaning progressive blog, there are thousands of brainwashed, perfectly adoring masses saying "that was the greatest speech I ever heard" when what our dear president was really doing, was suggesting we continue silently acquiescing to the militarization of our nation.

i am a pacifist who does not acquiese to the militarization of my home, my state, my nation.

I am not an advocate of violence, but this militarization impacts me enormously when folks like Zimmerman are set free after a long series of very violent aggressions against his neighbors

I fully support peaceful protests and feel we have options in 'peacefully NOT COOPERATING with the outcome of that trial.

more on a Peaceful interventionist approach to this later...
