(17,702 posts)What should the US President do, independent of what others choose to do or not do? (As far as I know, there isn't a case like this at the World Court. I could be mistaken.)
Actually, this conversation started with my question in response to a post by a different poster (quinnox) who has not replied to it. In their post, quinnox referred to the situation in Iraq today, with bombings, etc. But our troops are essentially out (except embassy staff, I think) and we definitely aren't trying to be "boss of Iraq" at the moment. So my question was about what the US President should do today about the recurring violence within Iraq. It doesn't sound like you support any further intervention from us. We could "throw money at it" without even being asked, but in whose hands would the money end up, and would it actually help things, or make it worse?
(The "intense litany" of questions is probably related to my caffeine consumption this morning, and the only larger point is that this is NOT a simple problem. I don't even necessarily disagree (or agree) with your ideas, I just think it is really, really not simple, and it's NOT Obama's fault, but maybe he COULD be doing something to improve the situation and I think it's interesting to discuss what those things might be)
