the moment shady tow company tries to grab occupied car sitting in SF traffic [View all]

known shady company that's been caught towing legally parked cars. Now they will tow you while driving!!

reddit.com/r/sanfrancisco/comments/1c007qf/specialty_tow_trying_to_grab_an_occupied_car_from/

That morning, he saw a tow truck with flashing lights suddenly pull in front of an occupied car next to a Waymo vehicle at the corner of Bush and Montgomery. At a glance, it didn’t seem terribly out of the ordinary.

“At first I thought, oh, that Waymo must be disabled, and this is the tow truck that they’ve hired to come get it,” he told SFGATE over the phone. But then, to everyone’s shock, the truck started backing up and putting its arm mechanism under the car full of people instead. Once he realized what was happening, Ferland pulled out his phone and started filming.

“Oh my god, what’s he doing?” someone could be heard asking in the footage. Other people started screaming and honking their car horns.

The truck, which belonged to a company called Specialty Towing, kept backing up toward the occupied car in the middle of the busy intersection, the footage shows, even as it continued to reverse out of the way. The person in the passenger seat rolled down their window and yelled at the truck driver before the car finally drove around the tow truck and fled. The tow truck then raced down the street in the same direction.

One user on Reddit commented on the video and said they saw the driver almost run over another person as they were backing up and lowering the truck’s mechanism. “WTF. This is over the top aggressive and should’ve not put the occupants, other cars in the area and pedestrians at risk,” they continued.
