I think this is why the reaction when MTG called for Johnson to step down was so dramatic on the Republican side. They could do the electoral math (about the only math they seem to be able to understand).

While it's less likely to happen in the House, ill-health or death could very well strike GOP members between now and November, even if there are no more unexpected retirements (and I think there will be).

I really have to wonder what the candidate's pollsters are actually seeing, something I suspect is likely to be much more accurate than the public polls put out.
