(6,152 posts)If you don't have a vested interest in identity politics and you are not an evangelical Christian, it can be very challenging to get bombarded with the ugliness that comes from both sides. I've seen the ugliness on the left. It's pretty intense. I don't agree with the ugliness on the right.
Many people rely on government to do the right thing, and will vote them out if things seem to be going in the wrong direction. I'm not sure that there's anything wrong with expecting elected officials to do their jobs so that the average person can get on with his/her life.
Right now, we have a Congress that can't seem to do its job. I am SURE that this will play out in election messaging. Right now we have enough conservatives in Congress to propose a national abortion ban. I am SURE that this will play out in election messaging. So, people will hear about it, and do something about it - they will vote. And they will try to vote for people who they think will do a good job.
As for Trump and Biden... what most people see is two old men duking it out, when they would really prefer other options. Biden is going to win as long as he can stay energetic because Trump is going to implode and people are seeing him as the joke (dangerous joke, but still a joke) that he is. In 2016, they were laughing with him. Now they are laughing at him. Implode.
What saddens me on DU is the utter disrespect that I see for anyone who does not follow the DU status quo. I see hostility, I hear anger, I hear disparagement. I'm right and everyone who doesn't agree with me is wrong... and ignorant because they don't know that they are wrong.
I'm not even sure that people know just how ugly and hateful they are being, in their determination to be "right".
