yuppies were not converted hippies. They were the young people who came of age right after the hippies.
I don't think that there were ever enough yuppies or hippies to influence voting results. (Hippies were unlikely to vote, anyway.) Like hippies, the yuppies were not a majority even in their generation, let alone in the general population.

Still, yuppies are not hippies. Maybe they used to think they were hippies because it was so fun.

Yuppies were the next generation from hippies who chose to define themselves as opposite them.
