This is news as provided via the Brian Lehrer show (WNYC/NPR) but I can't post in that section as there is not yet printed version to excerpt. (See edit below.)
Kirsten Gillibrand is about to announce a bill to ratify the Equal Rights Amendment.
As you probably know, enough states have voted to ratify it, but there has been debate about whether it "counts" because they did not all ratify it by the stated deadline.
Apparently Gillibrand's bill will force a vote on accepting all the states' votes, which will put Republicans in a position to either vote for it, or to have to explain to their constituents why they are voting against something most of their constituents support (not that that's been much of a concern of theirs before).
If it managed to pass, there would be further constitutional foundation to challenge the recent SC ruling regarding abortion.
Gillibrand will be on the Brian Lehrer show around 10:30 eastern to officially announce.
ETA: There was a New York Times article yesterday anticipating this, so more detail is at https://www.nytimes.com/2023/07/13/us/politics/democrats-equal-rights-amendment.html and also readable without paywall at https://archive.ph/1Dy3Y
