Starting in the 1970s, you would see nostalgia kick in for the time period 20 years prior - in the 1970s, there was a lot of 1950s nostalgia, in the 1980s, you started seeing 1960s nostalgia, in the 1990s, you started seeing 1970s nostalgia, and in the 2000s, you started seeing 1980s nostalgia. But nostalgia for the 1990s and after never really seemed to happen - culturally, the 1990s was sort of a transitional period between the '80s and the 2000s; from 2000 forward, the two biggest cultural drivers - movies and music - went into a permanent decline.
