(10,894 posts)DU is primarily a political blog. Yes, there are other forums within the platform but at its heart DU is all things political, current events, political.
If writing is the heart of everything you do, think, sleep, then your best bet is a community of writers who tend to be supportive and constructive in their criticism, always looking for ways to improve each other's work. Doesn't mean there aren't clashes of personality on said boards but overall a writing group focuses on the quality and effectiveness of the work itself before an individual writer sends his/her material out to a publisher. Or proclaims: It's done, the best I can do. Then sticks the manuscript in a file.
That being said the nit-picky critical qualities are part of the ballgame. You as a writer will develop your own critical eye, a way of separating the good suggestions--the ones that work for you and the piece--from the rest.
It's a process. As is the acceptance that once 'readers' are involved, once the material is shared and read, we open ourselves up to a world of different perspectives, sensibilities, opinions.
Another process.
Good luck with it!
