(10,064 posts)79. Senate Republicans had the opportunity to get rid of Trump and their supposed fear of him.
They refused. They could have convicted, removed him from office, and prevented him from holding any future elected office. I suspect they refused to follow the law not out of fear of Trump, but out of love for their power and Trumps ability to take all the media attention away from anyone but himself, leaving them with cushy jobs where they do very little. Some of them may have feared Trumps most rabid supporters, but all they had tondo was hold a secret vote. MAGATs would never vote for Democrats.
