Trump has indeed given up. He's abandoned the country and left it to the dubious mercies of the pandemic. There will be no assistance from the federal government, and the states (which by law must balance their budgets) will have to shoulder the financial burden of this public health emergency on their own. States will not be able to transact the public's business, and billions of dollars will be wasted in duplicative efforts.

It's bad enough that Trump doesn't give a fuck, we knew that about him from the get-go. What's worse will be the efforts of certain media outlets (*cough!*Fox!*cough*) to support Trump's abdication, supported by the work of Russian troll farms sowing division and hatred. Thousands more Americans will die, gasping their last breaths surrounded by machines and strangers.

Were the ratings worth it, Mr. Moonves?
