(4,522 posts)where is the condemnation of the training and the culture that comes FROM THE TOP?
The cop had a list a mile long of stuff he was not disciplined (I would suggest prosecuted for). Why? Not like they didn't know he was a problem. So was it NOT a problem? What about the others? Were they bad apples? Racist? or were they TRAINED to not see anything wrong with misuse of force etc? TRAINED to not actually help a citizen but to "put him down" instead.
Until there is nation wide evaluation of how our cops have become trained to devalue humane life - we're still going to see more of this. It's not just a few bad apples. It's the barrel that is causing the rot.
We need to hear politicians, people, etc not just focusing on the individual - but the system that allows this to happen again and again.
disclaimer- I'm sure there are some great officers - but that's why I see this as a SYSTEMIC issue.
