(30,824 posts)I don't think we picked the best candidate we could have found if the pool had been wide open like it is now.
More people would have jumped into the race if it were not evident that Clinton was already the choice of the DNC.
I like Hilary; I think she was well-qualified and did the best job she could on the campaign, but she came with a ton of baggage that dragged her down every step of the way.
But you are right, broad appeal is really important. And as time goes on, being a white male becomes less significant.
I think it would be an act of timidity for Dems to put forward a white male JUST to make winning more likely. Now is the time to continue pushing forward with a beautifully diverse group of candidates, and let the best one lead us into 2020.
