Students paint street "Power To The People" in Detroit

https://www.detroitnews.com/story/news/local/detroit-city/2020/06/18/detroit-street-painting-sends-power-people-message/3217084001/

"I wanted to stand up for my rights and for people of my same skin color. As an African American female, it's hard out here," said Lawrence, who will head to Central Michigan University in the fall. "I wanted to let it be known it doesn't matter what generation you are a part of, you can make a change."

"The project, involving 10 students from the city's public schools and 10 from the youth-led group, Detroit Heals Detroit, got underway Wednesday morning and is part of a citywide Juneteenth celebration. The painting will have an official unveiling Friday."

Gov Newsom orders mandatory face masks.

https://www.nbcbayarea.com/news/california/newsom-orders-people-to-wear-masks-in-most-indoor-spaces/2311887/

https://www.mercurynews.com/borenstein-newsom-coronavirus-strategy-accepts-60-plus-daily-deaths

"Hospitalizations have never come down substantially. Rather than a bell-shaped curve, we’re witnessing a plateau, with a likely rise in the fall when cold weather brings more of us indoors, if not sooner because of the economic reopening."

"Statewide hospital coronavirus patient counts remain at about 4,500 a day and daily deaths hover between 60 and 70. Since the start, more than 5,200 people have died in California from COVID-19."
*************
"Until now, the Democratic governor had let local governments decide whether to mandate masks, an issue that's become politically fraught as some Americans resist orders to wear them. He said he's issuing the order now because too many people are going out in public without face coverings as businesses, restaurants and other sectors of the economy reopen."

Some of the president's opponents fear that he'll refuse to leave the White House if he loses....

"Trump Could Still Break Democracy’s Biggest Norm
Some of the president’s opponents fear that he’ll refuse to leave the White House if he loses the election. Here’s why."
https://www.theatlantic.com/politics/archive/2020/06/when-does-trump-leave-white-house/613060/

"There’s no assurance that Trump will accept the validity of the election results. He’s already described mail-in voting as a plot to steal the election."
"...on Wednesday, Biden predicted that the military might be called on to evict Trump if it came to that—and that it would willingly comply. “I am absolutely convinced they will escort him from the White House with great dispatch,” Biden said.

"If Biden were to notch a narrow victory, Trump could look to contest the results and claim he’d actually won. He could put the military and other tools of presidential power in an awkward spot, pressuring them to pick sides and untangle competing claims about who won. A supine Justice Department led by Attorney General William Barr might bolster Trump’s claims by putting out statements that the vote was tainted."
The potential for chaos exposes the frailties of an electoral tradition that depends on the goodwill of the two candidates involved. "

"...an informal bipartisan group called the Transition Integrity Project that is looking to ensure the election and potential transition go smoothly. More than 60 people are involved, including former governors and Cabinet secretaries. They’re planning to meet on Zoom in the next few weeks and hold “tabletop” exercises meant to think through various scenarios: a narrow Trump defeat, a clear Trump victory, and a resounding Biden victory among them. They’ll game out what might happen if Trump and his supporters use social media to intimidate the election workers tallying votes, or if he refuses to leave in the event of defeat, among other possibilities, participants told me."

Trump Just Fulfilled His Billionaire Pal's Dream

"Trump just changed the rules to let Wall Street’s most predatory industry get its hands on hundreds of billions of dollars of ordinary workers’ retirement savings. Now his friends in private equity are celebrating."

"...the trick Trump just pulled off for his billionaire pals was something particularly special — it could end up being one of the single biggest financial heists in history."

"While long-standing worker-protection regulations have prevented 401(k) plans from investing in high-risk private equity firms, the letter now permits corporations to funnel that money to those firms, which charge notoriously giant fees."

"Trump’s administration argued that workers should feel fortunate and thankful that the administration will now let employers turn their savings over to private equity barons."

What the Pandemic Reveals About the Male Ego

"What the Pandemic Reveals About the Male Ego
Why are the rates of coronavirus deaths far lower in many female-led countries?"

"I compiled death rates from the coronavirus for 21 countries around the world, 13 led by men and eight by women. The male-led countries suffered an average of 214 coronavirus-related deaths per million inhabitants. Those led by women lost only one-fifth as many, 36 per million."

"Those leaders who handled the virus best were those who humbly consulted public health experts and acted quickly, and many were women; in contrast, male authoritarians who botched the response were suspicious of experts and too full of themselves."

"One trap for female politicians is that brashness can be effective for male candidates, but researchers find that male and female voters alike are turned off by women who seem self-promotional. That forces women in politics to master the art of communicating effectively in a low-key way — just what’s needed in a pandemic."

"There has been solid research that it makes a difference to have more women on boards and in grass-roots positions, but evidence that they make better presidents or prime ministers has been lacking — until Covid-19 came along. It’s not that the leaders who best managed the virus were all women. But those who bungled the response were all men, and mostly a particular type: authoritarian, vainglorious and blustering. Think of Boris Johnson in Britain, Jair Bolsonaro in Brazil, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in Iran and Donald Trump in the United States."

30,000 protest in LA today.

"According to All Black Lives Matter, the march aims to "amplify Black Queer voices" and support Black Lives Matter demands to "prosecute killer cops" and "defund the police and reinvest in the community."

"At least 30,000 people were marching Sunday afternoon."

"ABLM officials said they would not engage "official police involvement" in organizing the march and would reach out to Black-owned businesses rather than the corporate sponsors sometimes sought by Christopher Street West, highlighting issues that may have been points of contention."

Are there going to be a lot of tRump Boat Parades this weekend?

I just read that "thousands will be attending a parade in San Diego on Sat" and was organized as a form of "bringing the country together". San Diego is BLUE.

I read a list of cities, mostly in FL, who are having the same type of parade this weekend. Is this the thing to do in his cult now?

About BigmanPigman

I am 57, retired teacher and illustrator, life-long dem., activist, union member. Also I do not use social media and I'm technologically retarded. I love dogs, rock music and swearing (a lot). My 17 year old "puppy" died on June 2, 2020. She grew up listening to Animals (Pink Floyd). She has kept me sane through the tRump years, not easy, and has given me endless love, companionship, kisses and tail wags.
