Bill Clinton Suggests Donald Trump Part of Dictators Club on Conan

Source: Daily Beast

During this week in 1992, Bill Clinton was elected the 42nd president of the United States. The next year, In 1993, Conan O’Brien became the host of Late Night on NBC. It took a quarter of a century for them to finally sit down together and talk.

....

Clinton had more than that to say about the “fake news” campaign that may have cost his wife the presidency. With that in mind, he spoke out against what he called the “dictator’s club” that exists in the world. “They want to abolish the line between fact and fiction and between truth and lie,” he said.

...

Later, O’Brien posed a question that he intended to wrap up his conversation with Clinton. But instead, by asking what the Clinton Foundation’s “number one priority” is today, he got the former president started on a long and emotional speech about the opioid epidemic that had many in the audience shouting out their own struggles with the devastating issue.

But first, Clinton said that he was tempted to make a joke about all the conspiracy theories surrounding his foundation. “People think we’re involved in child trafficking,” he said, adding that some people even thought the Las Vegas shooter was on his payroll. “It’s amazing what people think,” he said.

Democrats Attack Tax Bill as a Middle-Class Con Job

Source: NY times

WASHINGTON — Republicans will pitch their tax bill this week as a gift to the middle class, but Democrats will call it a Trojan horse: a windfall for big business and the rich dressed as a tax cut for workers.

The tensions over who will benefit from the sweeping tax rewrite were on display during an hourlong meeting last week between President Trump and Senate Finance Committee members. Democrats who attended, including many whose states Mr. Trump won, said the president agreed with every point raised on the subject of tax cuts for the middle class. At the end of the meeting, Senator Ron Wyden of Oregon told Mr. Trump that the tax bill Republicans were drafting would not deliver on his promises to the middle class and would instead benefit corporations and high earners.

...

Democrats have little expectation that Republican lawmakers will take heed when House lawmakers introduce their tax bill next week. And Mr. Wyden and other Democrats are not waiting: They are already attacking the legislation as a bait-and-switch in the hopes that they can find a path forward to a bipartisan tax bill that they believe will truly benefit middle-class Americans.

“This is a middle-class con job,” Mr. Wyden said.

The bill, being a con job, is crafted to appeal to Trump's base instincts.

Who doubts that if passed as described, Trump will eagerly sign it?

What's the difference between Las Vegas shooter Steven Paddock and Donald Trump?

Paddock had an arsenal of 47 firearms and thousands of rounds of ammunition in his hotel room.

Trump has nukes.

Trump makes me ill...

Just heard him bloviating nightly news... "

"The press makes me out to be a worse person than I am ... I'm a nice person ... I went to an Ivy League college, I was very nice, I did well, I'm a very intelligent person..."

At which point I shut off the sound.

But as far as Trump's education goes, I am reminded of the statement by one of his profs at Wharton Business School. He said he never met a student who was so full of himself and thought he knew everything already. He also said Trump didn't even try to learn the material.

Some things never change.

We have the most moronic president.

Ever.

Sad.

Russias Election Hackers Use D.C. Cyber Warfare Conference as Bait

Source: Daily Beast

The Russian military hackers behind last year’s election meddling are using an upcoming cyber warfare conference in Washington D.C. as a lure to infect a new crop of victims with malware, security researchers said Sunday, effectively turning a high-level gathering packed with NATO and U.S. military cyber defenders into an opportunity for more attacks.

The new campaign by the hackers known as Fancy Bear and APT28 began in early October, when the hackers began spamming out a flier for next month’s International Conference on Cyber Conflict, or CyCon U.S. Hosted by the U.S. Army and a NATO cyber defense institute, the gathering features speakers like former NSA chief Keith Alexander, Gen. Paul Nakasone, who leads the U.S. Army Cyber Command, and Senator Martin Heinrich, a prominent Kremlin critic on the Senate Intelligence Committee’s investigation into Russian election meddling.

The Russian hackers’ flier for the event is a Microsoft Word document named “Conference_on_Cyber_Conflict.doc”. It contains the logos of the conference organizers and a sponsor, and text copied from the conference website touting the 2017 theme, “The Future of Cyber Conflict.” But Russia isn’t distributing the document to boost attendance. Buried inside is a malicious macro that downloads and installs malware called Seduploader, a Fancy Bear reconnaissance program that lets the hackers take screenshots and gather basic system information to decide if the victim is worth spying on long-term.

Beyond the simple irony of using a U.S. and NATO cyber security confab as bait for a hack attack, the campaign suggests that Fancy Bear is specifically interested in spying on efforts to thwart its hacking of Western targets.

The Air Force Just Bought 100 Stealth Fighters That Cant Fight

Source: Daily Beast

The U.S. military has signaled that it might cancel essential upgrades for more than 100 early-model F-35 stealth fighters flown by the Air Force, rendering the radar-evading jets incompatible with many of the latest weapons.

In that case, some six percent of the flying branch's planned 1,700-strong F-35 fleet would be unfit for combat, sticking U.S. taxpayers with a $20 billion tab for fighters... that can't fight.

Experts say the military never should have bought the planes the first place, as they rolled out of Lockheed Martin's Fort Worth factory before the F-35's design was complete and thoroughly tested—a deliberate strategy called "concurrency" that the military hoped would speed up the program's progress.

"The risk that the services would be stuck with less-than-capable aircraft is one that the Pentagon knowingly took when leaders decided to overlap the development and testing of the program with the production," wrote Dan Grazier, an analyst with the Project on Government Oversight in Washington, D.C.

Insults, Lawsuits And Broken Rules: How Trump Built A California Golf Course

Insults, Lawsuits And Broken Rules: How Trump Built A California Golf Course

When Donald Trump arrived in Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif., in 2002, he was welcomed as a "white knight," says former City Councilman Tom Long.

...

The way he did business in Rancho Palos Verdes was to fight. He sued the local public school district and the city government and publicly insulted an opposing lawyer, who now happens to be on the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals, which has been crucial to legal battles over Trump's policies as president.

...

In an interview at the time with the Easy Reader News, a small Southern California news outlet, Smith called Trump "pompous" and "arrogant."

"I have never had any contact with any human being who appears to be so self-absorbed and so impressed with himself," Smith said, according to the Easy Reader. "He's kind of like a big bag of wind."

Will Republicans Return Donations From Their Harvey Weinstein, a Guy Named Trump?

Will Republicans Return Donations From Their Harvey Weinstein, a Guy Named Trump?

RNC Chairwoman Ronna Romney McDaniel recently demanded that Democrats and Democratic organizations return any donations they had received from sexual predator Harvey Weinstein. “During three-decades worth of sexual harassment allegations, Harvey Weinstein lined the pockets of Democrats to the tune of three-quarters of a million dollars,” she thundered. “If Democrats and the DNC truly stand up for women like they say they do, then returning this dirty money should be a no brainer.”
...

Well now it’s time for the Republican organizations to follow RNC chair’s directive and return the donations they received from Donald Trump, a man who like Weinstein has admitted to sexually assaulting women. In fact, McDaniel’s original statement can be applied precisely to Trump by simply swapping in the underlined words: “During three-decades worth of sexual harassment allegations, Donald Trump lined the pockets of Republicans to the tune of nearly one million dollars.” Adding, “If Republicans and the RNC truly stand up for women like they say they do, then returning this dirty money should be a no brainer.” (Trump has donated more than $950,000 to the GOP organizations and Republican candidates over the past 26 years.)

In Trump’s case, 11 women came forward last year to publicly detail how Trump sexually assaulted them dating back to the late 1980s. (The BBC documents each incident in detail.) There was Jill Harth who told us that in 1993 when she was at the Mar-a-Lago resort, Trump “pushed me up against the wall, and had his hands all over me and tried to get up my dress again... I had to physically say: ‘What are you doing? Stop it.’”

A similar incident occurred in 2005 again at Mar-a-Lago when former People magazine writer Natasha Stoynoff explained how Trump “pushed her against a wall and forced his tongue down her throat.” Then there’s the incident that instantly conjures up Weinstein’s MO with women. Former Apprentice contestant Summer Zervos shared in painstaking detail that in 2007 Trump invited her to the Beverly Hills Hotel for what was supposed to be a meeting to discuss a job. But there, as Zervos explained, Trump “grabbed my shoulder and began kissing me again very aggressively and placed his hand on my breast.”
