I'm home with a stomach bug today and I'm just hanging around listening to guitarists from central west Africa.
This area is immensely important to all of today's music.
The music that came to America from this region in the voices and memories of slaves were the seeds that grew into every type of music that we came to claim as American.
But they didn't quit playing music over there while we took their musical traditions and molded them into Blues, Jazz and Rock. In fact they welcomed those musical grandchildren back home.
The music coming from the Niger, Western Sahara, Ghana region is fucking amazing
West Africa is reinventing hard rock
