I just received a fundraising email from Ted Cruz

How in the hell did they get my email? The email came from ted@tedcruz.org. Is that a real fundraising thing? It asks for up to $1,000. At the bottom of the email, it says I was added to their mailing list on Aug 21st with the option to unsubscribe. Is this legit? If so, did they buy my info from somewhere? Wtf?

I just received my Medicare card today.

I'm 33 years old and am on Caresource. The Medicare cards effective date is December 1st. How does this all work? Do I give up my Caresource or do I use Medicare as primary and CS as secondary? I'm in uncharted territory with this stuff. I never planned on being disabled this early in life.

I had my court hearing today. (Updated w/ chart)

Update 2: I received my approval letter in the mail today. Yay!

So after starting this process last year and receiving two paper denials, I went to court today and was found to be disabled under 3 different sections of disability law. Now I have to wait 60 days and then I will finally start to receive my funds.

Scientists: Sun's irregular 'heartbeat' could mean future freeze

(CNN)Scientists have made a discovery about the sun's "heartbeat" that they say indicates that Earth's Northern Hemisphere will experience a deep freeze in 15 years.

The sun has a "solar heartbeat," or cycle of activity, that produces energy that causes sunspots and solar flares. Scientists at Northumbria University in northeast England developed a model that illustrates the history of these heartbeats and that predicts there will be irregularities in them. The model suggests that solar activity will fall by 60% during the 2030s.

He said the research shouldn't give anyone the idea that because the weather may cool, climate change is not something to be worried about.

This isn't some RW talking point trying to debunk global warming. This was a study that I found interesting and thought I would share with the community.

Your health is not worth it, your blood pressure is not worth it, and your life is not worth it! Seriously, too much negativity can affect your health. So enjoy the day and be glad that we're all here to annoy each other.

VICTIM CLAIMS ATTACK IN CHICAGO PARK WAS RACIALLY MOTIVATED

Here's hoping for a quick recovery of the victims and arrest of the attackers.

CHICAGO (WLS) -- A woman who was stabbed multiple times in a Chicago park claims the attack was racially motivated. The woman said she and her brother had bricks and bottles thrown at them, and that racial slurs were being yelled as they were stabbed.

The attack left her back riddled with stab wounds and her face covered in stitches, but Kristina Fox's pain is more than physical.

"I'm still a wreck because I don't understand why this happened to me and my little brother," Fox said.

Fox, a 30-year-old administrative assistant, said she was attacked at Taylor-Lauridsen Park in Canaryville. Fox said she and her brother and one of their friends were hanging out in the playground in the early hours of Saturday morning when they struck up a conversation about music with a man and two women nearby, who were soon joined by their friends. Fox said two of the men in the other group then had a disagreement.

"They were arguing, so my little brother was trying to break it up. He's like, 'We're out here trying to have a nice time. You're all friends. Don't fight,'" Fox said. "And they just start jumping on him."

Fox said as she and her brother tried to leave, they were suddenly surrounded by people arriving at the scene.

"It was like 16 people on my brother, so I went over there to try to get them off. Everything happened so quickly. The next thing I know we're laying on the ground," Fox said. "It's like this part of my skin is hanging down here. And I feel over some more, and the knife was still stuck in my face."

I need a favor

I was on Facebook last night when I came across this post on one of the local yardsale groups.

Benefit YARD SALE for this young lady which is my neice,REBECCA is 18yrs old with RETT SYNDROME which is a neurological disorder to the brain.She can't walk or talk so if the family goes anywhere they have to lay her in the back seat which we all know isn't safe,and with her seizures she can't sit up on her own so we are trying to raise money for a wheelchair van for the family so they can possibly get out and go safe .Any donations for this sell would be nice and all proceeds will go towards the van.you can message me on here if you find it in your heart to donate. My suggestion to them was to set up a gofundme page where it could reach more people. In my notifications this morning, there was a reply that this young girl already has a gofundme page. When I went to the link, I noticed it had been set up in January and as of this posting, had only raised $700. I copied the link and said that I would be sure to spread it around. So here I am asking a favor.

Can anyone here just visit this young girls gofundme page? I'm not asking for donations, just a quick click and read about her. If you feel like donating, then Thank you!

I also want to make it clear that I have never heard of this person before yesterday. I just think that trying to find donated items for a benefit yardsale won't raise the amount of money they need. For whatever reason, I can't get this out of my mind. So I decided to post it here.

Whatever you may think of me or if we differ sometimes on our political discussions, please look past that and just check this out.

Interest in a Recycling Group

I would like to propose to the DU community that a group be created and archived within the Environment & Energy sub-forums and be named, "Recycling Group". The groups statement of purpose would be as follows:

This group was created to help inform, guide, and share with fellow members the vast amount of knowledge on recycling. We, as a species, have the ability to affect, whether positively or negatively, the world we live in more so than any other creature on our planet. Armed with the proper knowledge and a little effort, we can make our world a healthier, cleaner, and more satisfying place to live.

If the majority of the community supports this proposition, I shall take it to the Administrators for evaluation.
