DamnYankeeInHouston's JournalI'm hosting a Wendy Walk this Saturday from 10:00 - 2:00.
If you live in Houston, please come help knock on the doors of undecided voters and Democratic voters who vote infrequently.
We need to turn Texas a very pretty shade of blue.

Give the letter W its dignity back.
One of my former students just committed suicide.
I taught him in second grade. He loved nature and bicycling. He was married. He joined the navy. He was about to be deployed for the second time. I can't help but feel he is one more of the American military's most common form of casualty. He will be missed. My heart aches for his family and friends.
Hello. I'm a retired Texas teacher.
I have been a lurking reader on DU for ten years. DU has always been the first news site I check everyday. Now that I've retired from public school, I hope to have the time to be more actively involved. I taught in Houston schools for 33 years, mostly second grade, but also fourth and fifth grade science. I retired because I couldn't bear the teacher abuse or participate in the destruction of public education any longer. I'm now teaching preschoolers at my house. It is heaven. I am a dedicated democrat and a devout atheist. I am very happily divorced and have one grown daughter.
