I wonder if anyone else saw this documentary (four parts-four hours, hard to find even when you're looking for it) about the whole mess an then this little intro to where the whole mess of our world originated (second link)? I watched the whole thong during the past two evenings and found another short piece that was even more disturbing...

We as sportsman are in the field year-round and see the affects coyotes have on our deer herds first-hand. We see the amount of deer they kill and want to do something about it.
Four coyotes have been ear tagged and released in different wintering grounds and fawning areas around Cache County. If you trap or shoot an ear tagged coyote, on or before December 31, 2013, you will be paid a $1000. Any of the tagged coyotes not taken by December 31, 2013, will go into our drawing and will be awarded to a registered coyote. Be sure to register your coyotes as they may be worth $1000 if no ear tagged coyotes are taken.
Cost is $20 per person to register an unlimited amount of coyotes. Each coyote registered gives you one chance in the drawing. Registrations must be made on, or before, December 31, 2013. If you do not register your coyotes, you will not be eligible for any of the prizes in the drawing or any untaken, $1000 coyotes. All you need is the coyote’s nose to register.
Eleven other prizes to be given away in the drawing are:

•$100 in big game attractant from Critterlick
•Custom muzzle break from Ak Gunsmithing Wellsville, UT

This is something that is often supported by Cabelas and other sporting/hunting retailers.
Everyone should know that this stuff happens regularly, in this case it's a year-long contest. These events are common in Utah, Wyoming, Idaho, Colorado and Montana and probably other states as well.

I think that state and federal wildlife managers should take these people seriously and understand that they are attempting to influence natural resource agencies. In some cases this has already happened - and in some cases it's the legislatures they have influenced. We may soon see that fish and game agencies and commissions are dismissed from decision-making. The lawmakers will do it for them.

It must be said that there are several issues involved but this does a good job of tying together a lot of complaints made individually about the subject matter that goes way beyond the main topic and covers a number of ills in our social makeup. We claim to be a Judeo-Christian nation. Why don't we have a culture that values patience and forgiveness?
Guns would not be an issue if we simply valued patience, developed it in ourselves and forgave ourselves and others more readily.
The anger that pervades our society is the result of impatience, meanness and the unwillingness to forgive. What is the solution for that? Certainly not more vindictive religious rhetoric. And increased law enforcement won't do it either. Overly dramatic TV shows make it worse. Any ideas, DUers?

[W]hen violence comes to a peak like this, all too frequently these days, we as a people and as individuals need to work with those around us to seek more peaceful endeavors. Convince each other that there is more to life than the latest violent game, TeeVee show, popular music, movie and try to wean each other off the blood-lust and adrenaline rush of anger and resulting angry reactions. Stop buying the products that promote this.
Adrenaline appears to be the drug of choice these days, a drug that desensitizes most and allows for a skewed rationale that finds acceptance for bringing harm to others, regardless of the species. But since we are dealing, today, with the ruthless death of so many children, we need to focus on how we can start acting like our lives and those of others have meaning for ourselves and those we claim to care about and showing it to each other through our words and actions.
That's what comes to mind in my world at the moment with regard to your question.

There are several Ravens loudly jumping around on my roof as I write this, in my culture they are messengers of the spirit world... I hope that these words are considered and acted upon by those who have been at a loss about how to bring about the changes we need in our society.
I hope that these ideas can take hold in our society and be utilized in a good way to heal us from this disease and to help heal those who have been terribly wounded by it.

For all those who got all happy about the MTFW&P wolf hunt closure around YNP
Attention to all who admire or are curious about wolves in the Rocky Mountains and Yellowstone NP:
I am sorry to inform everyone that all the hoopla about this paltry action taken by MTFW&P was all about the bad PR they got and nothing more. Many of we wolf advocates have fought nearly to the death about this for almost two decades and with little national attention (seriously, we are stalked and receive death threats and harassment and loss of employment regularly).
Now that 10% of the Yellowstone NP wolves have been killed in the hunts so far this season, it needs to be known that it isn't going to stop anything except that, like the "Crowder" event in MI yesterday, the PR machine will make this agency look better when they have done nothing in reality to relieve the issue except in the PR game. And it was in Wyoming that the majority of park wolves were killed by individuals sitting outside the park boundary with "calls" luring the wolves out of the park and then killing them. The quotas for hunting units are always filled on the perimeter of the parks where wolves live and are protected first.
Many have argued for a "buffer zone" around the entire perimeter of YNP to avoid this very issue... for years. So here's the map of the miniscule "closure" offered by MTFW&P after most of the wolves that would enter that area have already been killed:

Mind you, neither Idaho or Wyoming have any intention of doing anything like this along their park borders.
It is also necessary to inform the general public that the main purpose (official excuse) for allowing the hunting of a species that has just recently been removed, illegally, from the ESA list was to let the wolf hating crowd "blow off some steam" by letting them kill some. That was so much BS that it makes one wonder what century these people live in. Letting these "hunters" kill wolves only encourages them to demand more killing and now trapping. There are a number of web sites that glorify the disrespectful maiming, torture and slow deaths of these amazing apex predators. And this issue has only received national attention because a well known wolf from the park was killed last week. About three million people come to YNP to see wolves and other wildlife in a natural setting each year and all three states benefit heavily from the revenue tourism brings.
As far as management policies in the three Rocky Mountain wolf DPS (reintroduced) states, Montana actually has the most reasonable (if you can call it that), Idaho and Wyoming are absolutely hostile toward the species and are attempting to kill them all even if they give lip service to the idea that the wolves will be placed back on the ESA list should they decline below 150 wolves per state. In the majority of the state of Wyoming there is a "shoot on sight" policy, year round. This is all due to the fact that they were reintroduced by the "goddam gubbamint" and wolves are something that can be taken out with guns.
Please pay attention to this issue as much as any of those regarding our rights as the removal of important species serves to further degrade our ability to survive by allowing the extractive industries to frack and dig up what's left of our publicly owned wild lands. They claim that in the absence of wildlife there is no reason to protect the land.
What can you do about it?
Call, email, tweet, FB the Congressional delegates and the state government officials of these three states and tell them that you will not be spending your vacation $$ in their state because of their wolf management policies.
