Freshman Democratic Rep. Lauren Underwood on Tuesday endorsed an impeachment inquiry of President Donald Trump, putting the issue in play as she seeks reelection in what has traditionally been a Republican suburban and exurban district.
Underwood, of Naperville, issued a statement on Twitter in which she said she has long supported “the impeachment-related investigation” led by House Judiciary Chairman Jerry Nadler, D-N.Y., and other Democratic-led House panels.

Nadler has recently acknowledged that the committee is conducting formal impeachment proceedings, noting documents his panel has filed in federal court citing its role in recommending articles of impeachment.
Underwood said Nadler’s court filing last month “clearly states that the Judiciary Committee is investigating whether to recommend Articles of Impeachment, essentially an impeachment inquiry. I support this investigation.”

“Big day today. I’m opening speaker 4 President of United States,” Wayne Allyn Root, a Las Vegas Review-Journal columnist and former Libertarian Party vice-presidential nominee, boasted Thursday morning on Twitter, hours before President Trump headlines a Las Vegas rally to elect a Republican ticket in the state.
“@realDonaldTrump personally requested Wayne Root as opening speaker to welcome crowd,” the right-wing commentator claimed. “Thank u Mr. President.”
The opening act makes sense considering Root’s long-running, often sycophantic friendship with the president.
Trump wrote a glowing blurb for Root’s 2015 book Angry White Male: How the Donald Trump Phenomenon is Changing America (which, coincidentally, featured a foreword by shady ex-Trump confidant Roger Stone). Root, in turn, emceed the future president’s 2015 campaign rally in Vegas, and later offered to become Trump’s own “Karl Rove” should he win the election. Earlier this year, Root bragged about spending a “magical evening” with President Trump at his Mar-a-Lago resort.
And in many ways, Root is the Las Vegas version of Trump: He’s a ruthless self-promoter from New York; a heavily airbrushed and often-gaudy TV personality whose flashy antics and love of chintz have made him synonymous with a city.
Moreover, just like the president, Root is now a bombastic right-wing media personality obsessed with the Clintons, Obama, the physical appearance of liberals, and the batshit conspiracy theories that comport with his worldview....................................

Acting CBP Commissioner Mark Morgan joined the agency in early July after a short stint at Immigration and Customs Enforcement. With Gorka's departure, both CBP and ICE will also be without a political appointee in their communications offices.
Gorka is married to Sebastian Gorka, the former deputy assistant to President Donald Trump, who was an outspoken and combative defender of the President's national security agenda, known for his dire warnings of Islamic terrorism while writing for Breitbart.
Before joining CBP on June 24, Katharine Gorka was a political appointee in the Homeland Security policy office who stirred controversy for her role in the department's efforts to combat violent extremism in the US. Over the past year, outside watchdog groups have requested records during her time as a senior adviser at DHS, with one group suing to get documents.

Denmark's Red-Green Alliance has called for the 40,000 who marched for the climate in Copenhagen in May to return to the streets to protest the coming visit from US President Donald Trump.
Eva Flyvholm, foreign policy chair for the party, said a climate demonstration of this scale would show Trump and the American public the serious public concern over the global heating internationally.
"It would be great and really excellent if some of the green organisations and young people who were out on the streets earlier wanted to show Trump that the climate is really important for us all," she told the Politiken newspaper.
Flyvholm said she herself intended to join demonstrations during Trump's state visit on September 2 and September 3, despite continuing uncertainty over which political parties or organisations will lead them.
Denmark's Royal Court and Prime Minister's office on Wednesday evening confirmed that Trump was visiting Denmark on the invitation of Queen Margrethe II.

Former US president Barack Obama will visit Denmark for the second time in 12 months to give a talk in Aalborg at the end of September.
Obama’s September 28th stop in North Jutland would have fallen in the same month as the now-postponed official state visit of his successor, Donald Trump, on September 2nd and 3rd.
The 44th president of the United States last came to Denmark in 2018, when he gave a talk for business leaders in Kolding, and also visited while in office.
Bill Clinton was the first sitting president to visit Denmark when he visited in 1997. George W. Bush came to the Scandinavian country eight years later in 2005. Obama visited Denmark in 2009 as part of the COP15 climate summit in Copenhagen.
Obama’s latest trip to the country was announced by venue Musikkens Hus in northern city Aalborg, which will play host to the event "A Conversation with President Barack Obama".
Musikkens Hus CEO Lasse Rich Henningsen, who will act as moderator at the event at which guests will be invited to ask questions, said he was looking forward to the occasion.
“President Obama is one of the people I look up to most in the in the world, so I’m hugely looking forward to meeting him,” Henningsen told Ritzau...............................................................

Trump said he wouldn’t visit Denmark because the country won’t sell Greenland.
“Greenland is not Danish,” Denmark Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen told reporters, per AP. “Greenland is Greenlandic. I persistently hope that this is not something that is seriously meant.”
That comment was enough for Trump to cancel a planned September trip to the nation.
The president initially downplayed reports that he wanted to buy Greenland, claiming “it’s not No. 1 on the burner.” However, in canceling the trip, he indicated that it was, in fact, the main reason for his visit ― and since she’s not selling, he’s not going. ........................

(CNN)Less than two weeks before his scheduled trip to Denmark, President Donald Trump announced on Twitter that he has postponed his visit to Copenhagen after the Danish Prime Minister disputed his interest in buying Greenland as "absurd."
"Denmark is a very special country with incredible people, but based on Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen's comments, that she would have no interest in discussing the purchase of Greenland, I will be postponing our meeting scheduled in two weeks for another time," he wrote Tuesday night.
He continued, "The Prime Minister was able to save a great deal of expense and effort for both the United States and Denmark by being so direct. I thank her for that and look forward to rescheduling sometime in the future!"
Trump has on multiple occasions brought up buying Greenland from the Danish government and the White House counsel's office has looked into the possibility, two sources told CNN last week.
On Sunday, Trump confirmed his interest in buying the country, telling reporters that Greenland is hurting Denmark.................................

The actual charge is that the man made interstate threats to kill a particular person (a Spanish woman who worked at a restaurant he visited). He also plotted with a friend to kidnap the woman, who he reassured by saying "I doubt the FBI would care much about her."......................................
