Fox Host Jesse Watters Goes On Sudden Vacation After Ivanka Trump Comment

Source: TPM

By Caitlin MacNeal Published April 27, 2017, 8:50 AM EDT

.......................

“I am going to be taking a vacation with my family, so I will not be here tomorrow and Friday,” he said at the end of Fox News’ “The Five. “Try not to miss me too much.”

During the show on Tuesday night, Watters made a comment about Ivanka Trump’s participation in a women’s summit in German.

“You know, the left says they really respect women and then when given an opportunity to respect a woman like that, they boo and hiss,” he said.

“So I don’t really get what’s going on here but I really liked how she was speaking into that microphone,” Watters added while making a fist and holding it up to his face..............

The White House's all-hands briefing on North Korea sounded like it was a disorganized mess

The entire US Senate was bused to the White House on Wednesday afternoon to receive a much-hyped classified briefing on North Korea — but some Senators emerged from the all-hands meeting unimpressed by the content and the "lack of straight answers" they got from administration officials.
.....................

"What was discussed, I already knew," Corker said, according to BuzzFeed. "I'm not certain I would have had the briefing today, but I do appreciate — you know, they've got a great team that they put together."

................

Another Republican Senator told The Washington Post's congressional reporter Ed O'Keefe that the White House did not offer "even straight answers on what the policy is regarding North Korea and its testing of ICBMs [intercontinental ballistic missiles]."

......................

Democratic Sen. Tammy Duckworth put it bluntly: "It felt like a dog-and-pony show," she told CNN on Wednesday night. " I didn't get any information out of it that I couldn't get from reading a newspaper."

Duckworth added ..................................

Donald Trump to strip all funding from State Department team promoting women's rights around the w

Leaked plan comes as First Daughter Ivanka defends her father's record with

Donald Trump plans to strip all funding from a State Department bureau that promotes the rights of women around the world, it has emerged.

Oxfam America led criticism of the move, saying said cutting funds for the Office of Global Women’s Issues would have “dire consequences for millions of people, as well as our global standing”.

Documents first leaked to Foreign Policy showed plans to reduce the office’s 2016 budget of $8.25 million (£6.43 million) to zero in 2018, though the President’s budget will still have to make it past Congress.

“It’s clear that women’s empowerment and gender equality are on the chopping block in this budget,” Oxfam vice president for policy, Paul O’Brien, said.

New Version Of Obamacare Repeal Would Gut Pre-Existing Condition Guarantee

Apparently yanking away the funds that allow millions of people to get health insurance isn’t enough for some House Republicans.

Now they also want to gut the Affordable Care Act’s protection for people with pre-existing conditions.

Rep. Tom MacArthur (R-N.J.) on Tuesday formally unveiled an amendment to the American Health Care Act, the bill to repeal Obamacare that Republicans tried to get through the House last month. The amendment, which HuffPost’s Matt Fuller first reported last week, is the product of negotiations among key Republicans, including Vice President Mike Pence.

A main goal of the proposal is to win over conservative House members who last month opposed the GOP repeal bill because, in their view, it still left too much of the 2010 health care law in place. Rep. Mark Meadows (R-N.C.), chairman of the conservative House Freedom Caucus, helped to craft the amendment. And although he has not yet declared support for it publicly, a few other conservatives have signaled they may be ready to switch from no to yes.

ICYMI: Justices Say E.P.A. Has Power to Act on Harmful Gases

We have an EPA that is hostile to science--as is the Trump Administration.

"The court further ruled that the agency could not sidestep its authority to regulate the greenhouse gases that contribute to global climate change unless it could provide a scientific basis for its refusal."

WASHINGTON, April 2 — In one of its most important environmental decisions in years, the Supreme Court ruled on Monday that the Environmental Protection Agency has the authority to regulate heat-trapping gases in automobile emissions. The court further ruled that the agency could not sidestep its authority to regulate the greenhouse gases that contribute to global climate change unless it could provide a scientific basis for its refusal.

The 5-to-4 decision was a strong rebuke to the Bush administration, which has maintained that it does not have the right to regulate carbon dioxide and other heat-trapping gases under the Clean Air Act, and that even if it did, it would not use the authority. The ruling does not force the environmental agency to regulate auto emissions, but it would almost certainly face further legal action if it failed to do so.

Writing for the majority, Justice John Paul Stevens said the only way the agency could “avoid taking further action” now was “if it determines that greenhouse gases do not contribute to climate change” or provides a good explanation why it cannot or will not find out whether they do.

Beyond the specific context for this case — so-called “tailpipe emissions” from cars and trucks, which account for about one-fourth of the country’s total emissions of heat-trapping gases — the decision is likely to have a broader impact on the debate over government efforts to address global warming..........

Congress set to deny Trump wall money

But Trump is also aware that fully backing down at this point could embolden Democrats who are clamoring for a commitment to permanently fund Obamacare’s insurance subsidies, according to one person involved in spending bill negotiations. Democrats are likely to receive no better than a temporary patch to keep those funds flowing to low-income Americans, which will cost about $7 billion this year. Trump’s administration has threatened to cut off those funds as a condition for getting his wall funding.

.............................
Congress “will ramp up border security money with additional fencing and security measures short of the great wall,” said the official. “Then push for wall money in the fall.”

....................

"I hope this is not the case. But it looks like, from here, right here, right now, it looks like President Trump is caving on his demand for a measly $1 billion in the budget for his wall on the border with Mexico," said Rush Limbaugh.

By Tuesday afternoon, Democrats were ebullient about Trump's newfound flexibilty. Democrats are, however, willing to send more than $1 billion in border security to Trump, as long as it doesn't directly fund the border wall..................

President Trump is backing off his demand to include border wall funds in the new spending bill this week, as the April 28 deadline to avoid a government shutdown nears. (Reuters)

For the second time in two major legislative battles, the Trump White House has issued an ultimatum — only to back down.

In the health care debate, the president was going to force a House vote on the package and dare skeptical Republicans to vote against replacing Obamacare, before abandoning that plan in the face of defeat.

And now, in the government funding debate, he's backing off his previous demand that Congress approve funding for his border wall. As The Washington Post's Philip Rucker, Robert Costa and David Weigel report:...............
